The New Zealand police take up the case!

In an attempt to find where Bertie might have gone we sent an email to the Sunday Star-Times in Auckland; this is the reply we received:

Dear Webmaster,

This email is being typed for me by Tony Potter, letters editor of the Sunday Star-Times newspaper, in New Zealand, who hopes to run your letter in the paper this Sunday (March 19).

I am Constable Harry Bear (as in "Dirty Harry"), of the New Zealand Police and have been assigned to the case. As you can see by the attached pictures it pays not to mess with me. On my left in the pictures I am sending you is my latest arrest, that of Barry (The Burglar) Bear, who was apprehended recently, possibly because he insisted on wearing the give-away burglar's mask.

Upon receipt of your email, I proceeded in a southerly direction to Auckland International Airport where, to be quite frank, the trail had gone cold. There was not a bear paw print to be found! Having checked the departure lists for the month in question, I have ascertained that no bear by the name Bertie departed through Customs and Immigration. From this, I deduce that Bertie was either clandestinely smuggled out of New Zealand or is still here.

My inquiries are continuing.
